PORTLAND, Ore. -- Police officers on the west side of the Portland metro area were focusing their efforts on enforcing the Move Over Law on Wednesday morning.Under the Move Over Law, drivers approaching an emergency vehicle working on the roadside must:Move over to another lane. If the driver cannot safely change lanes, slow down. In all cases, the driver must try to provide as much room as possible for the emergency vehicle. Failure to comply with the Move Over Law can result in a $336 fine.On Wednesday, officers were concentrating their efforts on Highway 26 between the Sylvan overpass and Northwest 185th Avenue.More than 700 officers have been struck and killed in the last 10 years while working on the country’s highways.In November 2007, a Hillsboro police officer who had pulled over to the side of Highway 99W was struck by a car. Clint Chrz was taken to a hospital and later released.
