MILWAUKIE, Ore. -- A Milwaukie woman who had her car stolen twice ran into another problem Thursday in getting her vehicle back.Shannon Patterson has had her car stolen two times from a northeast Portland parking garage.Police found her car the first time. The second time, Patterson said, the thief left her car in an apartment complex. The complex manager then had the car towed and impounded.Patterson tried to get her car back from 21st Century Towing and found out she must foot the bill to get it back. She said she doesn't blame the tow company, but she doesn't have enough money to get it back.
"I'm really angry," Patterson said. "It's my car and I'm a victim and now I'm expected to pay these impound fees and it just doesn't seem fair to me."Patterson said the impound fee is $195 and, beginning Friday, it will rise $21 per day. The manager of the towing company said the fee covers city, mileage and storage fees.City officials said they're sympathetic toward Patterson's case, but there's nothing they can do. However, they did agree to waive the city fees for her, which cut $20 off the total price tag.The towing company manager said Patterson's best bet is to get her insurance company to cover the costs -- or hope police catch the thief.
