HOT THROUGH WEDNESDAY WITH SMOKY SKIES
Tuesday, August 14, 4:20 PM
Poor air quality is the big story today, with most spots in the metro area and the Columbia River Gorge in the "unhealthy" category. While we are seeing smoke from fires up and down the west coast and Canada, fires burning in Washington are the biggest contributors to the low level smoke today. Without the haze, we would have likely hit 100 degrees today. Instead, we'll top out in the mid 90s.
Tomorrow will bring more haze, but we won't see as much at the surface. High temperatures will remain hot, close to 90 degrees.
A cooler pattern of morning clouds and afternoon sunshine hits Thursday through Saturday. The smoke should be mainly gone Friday and Saturday.
Next week could bring another heat wave, but no extreme temperatures.
