Lawrence, KS -- (Sports Network) - Sherron Collins scored a career-high 25 points to lead the 24th-ranked Kansas Jayhawks in an 85-45 rout of the Florida Gulf Coast Eagles at Allen Fieldhouse. Cole Aldrich added 12 points for the Jayhawks (2-0), who were coming off a 71-56 victory over UMKC on Sunday. Marcus Morris hauled in 10 rebounds to go with his five points. Reed Baker totaled 11 points for the Eagles (0-1), who went 10-21 overall and 6-10 in the Atlantic Sun Conference last season, their first at the Division I level. Collins' jumper gave Kansas an 8-0 lead just over four minutes into the game. Later on in the first half, Aldrich hit a basket that made it 32-9 in the Jayhawks' favor. "I'm confident right now because coach has given me the freedom to go out there and get my own shot and do what I want," said Collins. "From time-to- time, I try to get my teammates involved because I know I'll eventually get going." Kansas was sitting on a 45-13 lead at the break. Kyle Marks' jumper at the 16:55 mark closed out an Eagles 7-2 run to open the second half. Tyrel Reed, though, answered with a three-pointer that sparked a 14-2 Kansas run, leaving the Jayhawks with a 61-22 lead as Markieff Morris poured in a layup with 13:35 left in the contest. The home team cruised the rest of the way, as Kansas led by as many as 45 points. "The ball just wasn't going in the hole for us tonight," said Baker. "Kansas had great pressure defense, which we haven't really seen in practice. It was the first college game for a lot of our guys and our other key guys hadn't played in a while."Game Notes:The Eagles shot just 23.6 percent from the floor, compared to the Jayhawks' 49.2 percent showing. Florida Gulf Coast is without four starters and 11 letterwinners from a year ago...This blowout marked the first-ever meeting between the Eagles and Jayhawks on the hardwood.
