NCAA Game Summary - Eastern Washington At Appalachian State

Boone, NC -- (Sports Network) - Armanti Edwards passed and ran Appalachian State into the FCS semifinals, throwing for 221 yards with two touchdowns and running for 126 yards and another score, as the Mountaineers held off Big Sky representative Eastern Washington, 38-35, at Kidd Brewer Stadium. Devon Moore also reached the century mark on the ground with 100 yards on 24 carries and a touchdown for two-time defending champion Appalachian State (11-2), which moves on host Richmond in the semifinals next Saturday afternoon. Dexter Jackson and Hans Batichon each caught touchdown passes and Coco Hillary led the Mountaineers with 66 yards receiving in the victory. Matt Nichols completed 24-of-42 passes for 185 yards, two touchdowns and one interception in defeat. Dale Morris rushed for 69 yards and a score, Bryan Jarrett took his only carry 51 yards for a touchdown and Aaron Boyce caught a touchdown for Eastern Washington (9-4). Edwards had a perfect opening half, completing all nine of his passes for 154 yards with two touchdowns and rushing for 78 yards and the other Mountaineers score. Appalachian State had a 21-7 lead at the half before Jarrett's 51-yard TD sprint, but Julian Rauch converted a 21-yard chip shot to increase the lead back to 24-14. A.J. Jimerson took the ensuing kickoff 78 yards to cut the deficit to 24-21, but the Mountaineers again answered with Devon Moore's 10-yard touchdown run. Kevin Richardson scored from 18 yards out before Eastern Washington charged back at the end. Morris scored from one yard out and Nichols threw a two-yard TD pass to Matt Martin before a failed onsides kick.
