A Keizer teenager who saved his younger sister from a house fire last summer was selected one of the Newsmakers of the Year at an annual Royal Rosarians event Wednesday.

Firefighters said 14-year-old Baltazar Delgado pulled his 6-year-old sister from the top bunk of her bed and then rushed her out of their burning home last June.

FOX 12 anchor Shauna Parsons presented the award to Delgado at the Double Tree Hotel at the Lloyd Center. Delgado said he was honored by the recognition.

"It was a scary thing. Very terrifying," Delgado said. "But I just love to be there for my sisters, and they always know I'll be there and think about how great I was to her."
