Pacific University Seeking Stolen Laptop

FOREST GROVE, Ore. -- Administrators at Pacific University are trying to find a missing laptop that contains names and personal information.Forest Grove police said the university-owned laptop was stolen from a staff member's home Thursday.The school does not believe there were any Social Security numbers on the computer. Administrators said there's no evidence of identity theft, but the University encouraged staff and students to monitor their personal information and accounts.Authorities released the following information Friday:

A: A University-owned laptop was stolen from a staff member's residence on March 25, 2009. All of the theft victim's passwords were promptly changed.Q: What information was on the stolen portable storage device?
A: The stolen laptop was password protected and there is no factual evidence that your private information was stored on the laptop. However, the possibility exists that your confidential information is present on the system.Q: Was there any other personal identification information on the stolen device?
A: The victim of the theft informs us that no social security numbers were stored on the system.Q: Has any fraudulent activity been reported yet?
A: At this time, the University has not been notified that there has been any fraudulent activity related to the theft of the database
