Sanjaya Malakar sports his "pony-hawk"

Sanjaya Survives Another 'Idol' Cut

Maligned Singer Avoids Bottom 3 Vote Total

POSTED: 8:30 am PDT March 29, 2007

Sanjaya Malakar, who recently sang "You Really Got Me" on "American Idol," keeps getting love from the show's voters.

And not getting the love is curly-haired Chris Sligh, who once said he was "bringing chubby back."

Sligh was the latest casualty of "American Idol" voters -- including those who insist on keeping Malakar in the competition. Sligh captured the fewest votes of the remaining 10 contestants in voting that was unveiled Wednesday night.

And with Malakar's army holding the fort, Phil Stacey and Haley Scarnato may need to keep looking over their shoulders: They, along with Sleigh, were among the bottom three vote getters on Wednesday night's show.

Malakar is widely considered one of the weakest performers on "American Idol" but his fan base has helped him survive multiple rounds of viewer elimination. Clearly appalled by the fan support of Malakar, "Idol" judge Simon Cowell has said he will quit the show if the singer ends up winning the competition.

Malakar, 17, has gained visibility for things like sending a young girl into a Beatles fan-like crying fit after hugging her and re-inventing his hair-do every week.

During his performance Tuesday, Malakar, who is from Washington state, sported a frizzy pony-hawk 'do. His long hair was done up in seven red ponytails, giving him a mohawk-like look.

Cowell remarked that Malakar must not have a mirror in his dressing room, and the singer shot back at Cowell, saying he was jealous.

In addition to Malakar, Scarnato and Stacey, left in the "Idol" competition are Melinda Doolittle, LaKisha Jones, Gina Glocksen, Blake Lewis, Jordin Sparks and Chris Richardson.

Doolittle and Jones have attracted the most attention by the judges and are considered to be the favorites in the competition, with Sparks and Lewis trailing.
