Gus Van Sant To Direct Movie In Oregon

PORTLAND, Ore. -- Acclaimed movie director Gus Van Sant plans to direct his next feature film in Oregon, state officials announced Monday."Restless" will begin filming in early November and will take place in Portland and the surrounding areas. The movie's screenplay is by Jason Lew and it's based on his stage play "Of Winter and Water Birds." Portland-based producer David Cress is the film's executive producer.There's no word on who will be cast for the film.Van Sant is one of Oregon's best-known filmmakers. He earned best director nominations for "Good Will Hunting" in 1998 and "Milk" in 2009. He also directed "Finding Forrester" and "My Own Private Idaho.""Gus has always been a great supporter of the local art scene and that support is demonstrated by his decision to film his next picture in Oregon," said Gov. Ted Kulongoski in a statement Monday.In the past five years, the following movies have been filmed, at least partially, in Oregon: "The Road," "Twilight," "Untraceable," "Into the Wild" and "Mr. Brooks."
