Tip: Dried Herbs

POSTED: 1:02 pm PST November 15, 2005

Dried herbs will remain flavorful for about 1 year when stored in a tightly closed container (rather than a box) in a dark, dry place. It's a good idea to date the jars when you buy them. The herbs should resemble the color they were when fresh and should not be dull or brownish green. To get the most out of your dried herbs, crumble them between your fingers to release the aromatics as you add them to recipes.
