KEIZER, Ore. -- The family of a man killed in a Keizer parking lot in 2004 came forward Tuesday, asking the public to help find the killer.A 911 call of shots fired brought Keizer police to an apartment complex in 2004. Officers found Patrick Johnson lying in a pool of blood. His death soon became the longest-running murder investigation in Keizer history."This is our only one in our 20-plus years existence as a city and we plan on this not going unresolved," said Detective Rodney Bamford.Bamford said detectives have followed every lead and talked to more than 100 people since it happened. Their leads have taken them to Casa Grande, Ariz., where detectives have gone before, and a return trip is planned once police have more information.
Family said Johnson didn't finish high school and drifted into a life of crime. They said he served 10 years in prison for armed robbery, but he came out a changed man."He was making extreme strides to change his life," said Cindy Scott, Johnson's sister. "He had changed it. He was doing what was necessary in order to get where he was trying to go."Police said all of their leads come back to the same group of people and they're close to solving the crime."It's frustrating in that we know there are people with pertinent information to this case," Bamford said. "And for whatever reason, they don't want to come forward."The victim's family asked for those people to come forward to help ease their pain."We know we can't have him back, but it hurts even more to know there are people out there that know information about this that are unwilling to come forward," said Randy Johnson, the victim's brother. "And that hurts most."A $5,000 reward is being offered for information that leads to an arrest.
