Police Catch Man Accused Of Rape, Burglary After Pursuit

PORTLAND, Ore. -- Police said they arrested a man in connection with a burglary and rape in northwest Portland Thursday.Officers said Jackie Weeks, 47, was taken into custody on charges of rape, sodomy and burglary in connection with a break-in and sexual assault at a northwest Portland home Tuesday.Weeks tried to elude police twice before they caught up to him near Corbett and arrested him when he crashed the car he was driving, police said.At about 7 p.m. Wednesday, police went to a warehouse space in the inner southeast industrial area after they heard Weeks may be working in the area.
When investigators arrived, Weeks ran out the door and escaped, officers said.Police searched the area around the warehouse for 90 minutes, but they didn't find Weeks, who is a registered sex offender.Then officers said they caught up to Weeks again driving westbound on Highway 26 about five miles east of Sandy at about 1:45 p.m. Thursday.A trooper saw Weeks driving a two-door Ford Probe but lost sight of him before he was seen by an OSP sergeant less than 10 minutes later, police said.He tried once again to elude police but ended up crashing into heavy brush and trees, and got out of his car and tried to run away, police said.Weeks was taken into custody and treated for minor injuries he suffered in the crash, police said.Anyone with information on the investigation is asked to call 503-823-0885.Portland police say they arrested a man in connection with a burglary and rape in northwest Portland.
