A SERT call shut down a major road in southeast Portland for several hours while police searched for a gunman Thursday evening.

Police said they were called to the area of Southeast 120th Avenue and Powell Boulevard because of an argument between a man and woman that ended with at least one gunshot.

Witnesses told police the woman took off in a car and the man followed her and opened fire.

Police said witnesses told them which way the man went and officers called in a Special Emergency Response Team to surround the area.

They spent hours clearing several buildings where the man could have run inside, but they found nothing. Officers then continued the search by using K-9s to scour neighbors' yards.
