Thieves Steal From Hazel Dell Mailboxes

Thieves stole personal information from several people after breaking into mailboxes in Vancouver on Friday.

The break-ins happened in the 2500 block of Northeast 82nd Way in Hazel Dell. Sandy Greenlee said she noticed her lock broken last week and she reported it to the post office. Post office workers replaced the lock, but on Friday night, the thieves returned.

This time, they broke open about nine of the mailboxes. Greenlee said the crooks swiped all her mail, including a piece of mail that included her credit card.

Neighbors said they're considering organizing in hopes of catching the thieves.

"We've gathered together as neighbors, kind of hoping that maybe we'll take shifts during the night and see if we can catch this person or people," Greenlee said.

Sheriff's deputies said they receive reports of mailbox theft every day. In fact, they receive so many that unless they have information on a suspect, they pass the reports on to the postal inspector to investigate.

Anyone with information on who is responsible for the break-ins is asked to call the Clark County Sheriff's Office.
