A man who detectives describe as a prolific identity thief is wanted in Multnomah County.

Forty-three-year-old David Lashway was last seen at a home in north Portland, where detectives questioned several people and searched the house.

Lashway is accused of using stolen and fraudulent checks to purchase thousands of dollars in merchandise at Lowe's home improvement stores in Jantzen Beach and Wood Village, as well as other big-box stores in the area.

Detectives said he purchased paint and drywall supplies and then sold them for cash. Several of the fraudulent checks used at Lowe's were in the name of Sam Wiseman, who lives in southeast Portland.

"Back in the spring, somebody broke into my pickup and took my planner," Wiseman said. "It had all my information in it."

Wiseman said he learned his information was being used when he started receiving collection letters in the mail from Lowe's.

He hopes Multnomah County's Warrant Strike Team is able to put a stop to Lashway's alleged check fraud scheme.

"I've been surprised by how easy it's been for him to do this to me," he said.

Anyone with information on Lashway's whereabouts is asked to call the Multnomah County Sheriff's Office.
