Liquor Store Smash-And-Grab Caught On Camera

Two men used a large rock to smash their way into a liquor store in Lebanon so they could steal alcohol.

The burglary occurred just after 10 p.m. on Monday when the thieves made off with four bottles of Black Velvet. Surveillance video from the Lebanon Liquor Store on Santiam Highway captured the burglars on camera, but the thieves were careful to hide their faces from the cameras with their hooded sweatshirts.

"It's very frustrating," said store owner Jesse Bolander. "We're fortunate to not have lost that much product, but we just went through budget cuts and we're dealing with theft we pay full retail on."

In addition to stealing alcohol, Bolander said, the thieves caused major damage to his store. He said hundreds of dollars worth of repairs are needed.

"We've since upped our alarm systems with some glass breaks and we're installing shatter-proof glass with laminate," Bolander said. "Anything we can do to prevent it."

In addition to the crime in Lebanon, Bolander said he owns a liquor store in Eugene that was hit by thieves in August. His friend's store in West Linn also fell victim to a burglary recently.

"Theft is up, I think, in all liquor stores in Oregon," he said. "I think this is just a case of young people wanting liquor."

The two burglars who hit Bolander's store are described as white men in their late teens to early 20s. They were both between 5 feet 9 inches and 5 feet 10 inches tall and weighed between 160 and 190 pounds. One of the men wore a black coat with a red hooded sweatshirt and a baseball cap. The other wore a gray sweatshirt with a dark design on the back.

Anyone with information is asked to call Lebanon police.
