Some Neighbors Taking Precautions After NE Portland Burglary

A burglar made off with electronics and more than $20,000 in jewelry from a northeast Portland home Thursday, neighbors said.

Police were called at 6:30 p.m. but the victim said the burglary happened between 3:30 p.m. and 5:15 p.m. at her home near Northeast 10th Avenue and Knott Street.

The victim said the thief stole a wedding band worth more than $20,000 by walking in through her front door and going out through the back.

Residents of the Irvington neighborhood said the burglar also stole the woman's TV and computer.

Heather Penner, who lives nearby, said house burglaries are unusual in the area.

"Cars have been broken into but no homes," Penner said.

The crime has spurred some people to take extra precautions.

"It's just a reminder we're going to make sure that everything is locked up," said Chris Lincoln. "It definitely, I think, makes us all feel a little more conscience about our home safety."

Portland police haven't released a suspect description.

Anyone with information is asked to call police.
