Two banks were robbed Thursday in downtown Portland, police said, and both robbers got away with cash.

Portland police said two different robbers hit the US Bank, located at 2000 S.W. Morrison St., and the Key Bank, located at 444 S.W. Fifth Ave.

At US Bank, a robber handed a bank teller a note demanding money at about 11:30 a.m., officers said.

Police described that robber as a white man, 45 to 50 years old, 5 feet 8 inches to 5 feet 11 inches tall, about 200 pounds with dark-colored eyes. He was seen wearing a gray hooded sweatshirt and blue jeans.

At Key Bank, a robber walked in and demanded cash, police said, but he didn't show a weapon.

FBI officials described the robber as white, about 35 years old, about 5 feet 4 inches tall and 150 to 160 pounds. He was seen wearing a gray baseball cap and a yellow rain jacket.

Mark Lawrence works in the downtown area and said he wasn't surprised by the robberies.

"To be honest, during this economic time, it's kind of expected," he said.

Anyone with information is asked to call Portland police or the FBI.
