Possible Mountain Lion Killing Alpacas In Gresham

A mountain lion is apparently killing animals on an alpaca farm in Gresham.

The owners said two of their alpaca herd have been destroyed by a big, cat-like animal this week.

Jason and Deanna Skirving said they're concerned about the newborns and expecting alpacas after they saw a big cat hovering over a newly killed alpaca Wednesday.

Jason Skirving said he shot it, but the animal ran off.

Neither they nor Oregon Fish and Wildlife officers have been able to locate it.

They said they think the first of their herd killed was the victim of an animal bigger than a coyote.

"He was killed and whatever attacked him actually dragged him down through the lower pasture, all the way up to the fence, and he was eaten through the fence," Deanna Skirving said.

The Skirvings said the animal that killed their other alpaca Wednesday night had a shiny coat and long tail.

It didn't appear to be afraid of them, but finally jumped a fence as they approached.

After Jason Skirving's shot wounded the animal, it couldn't be found.
