PORTLAND, Ore. -- A man walked into a Raleigh Hills bank, ordered everyone to the ground and demanded money Friday morning, FBI agents said. The man who robbed the Rivermark Credit Union on Southwest 76th Avenue at 10 a.m. is being called the Beer Belly Bandit by FBI agents, said Beth Anne Steele of the FBI.There were eight employees and two customers in the credit union when the robber, who has a dark complexion and is either a Pacific islander or Hispanic, walked into the bank and threatened them with his gun, Steele said. The Beer Belly Bandit is suspected to have been involved in three credit union robberies since May, she said.
Rivermark customers said it's a very surprising crime to hear about especially considering the location, and one customer said she can only imagine how scary it must have felt."I don't know what you'd do in those situations. I guess you'd be calm and who cares about the money," a customer named Sue said.At the time of the robbery, the man was wearing a black baseball cap, tan pants, a dark long-sleeved shirt and had a black and white bandanna covering his face, Steele said. He is described as 5 feet 9 inches tall and 220 pounds.Anyone with information about the robbery should call the FBI or Portland police.
