A day after he was attacked and his throat slashed -- a Woodburn auctioneer said he's angry that the man attacked him and doesn't understand why it happened.

In an interview from his hospital room, Chuck Boyce said he doesn't understand why a man jumped up and slit his throat during an auction on Tuesday. Police said the man who attacked Boyce was Jeremiah Thomasson, 23, and officers arrested him a few hours after the incident.

Boyce now has 15 staples closing up the big gash in his neck -- a cut that narrowly missed his voice box and arteries.

The longtime auctioneer said he was standing at a podium conducting the auction when a man approached him three different times and said he was in a hurry. Boyce said the man appeared to be agitated but, when asked, wouldn't tell him why he was in a hurry.

He said he didn't notice until it was too late that the man had snuck up behind him. He said the man grabbed him by the forehead and slit his throat before running off

Boyce said he was lucky the long deep cut missed his arteries but when he woke up in the hospital last night he was angry.

"I was really pissed at the guy and I want to know why he did what he did to me. There was no reason -- nothing -- for him doing that," Boyce said.

Thomasson of Coos Bay was arraigned Wednesday afternoon on charges of attempted murder, first-degree assault, menacing and unauthorized use of a weapon.

Boyce is expected to recover and has been released from the hospital but he said he has no medical insurance. A fund has been set up at US Bank in his name for those who would like to help.
