A scholarship honoring the life of a community hero is helping Portland students realize their dreams.

Members of the Portland Police Bureau awarded four students with scholarships to De La Salle North Catholic High School on Wednesday.

Police established the Z Man Scholarship to honor the life of Officer Mark Zylawy, who died in an accident last year.

On Wednesday, the families of the scholarship recipients said the "Z Man" will never be forgotten.

"I'm thankful and I'm humble at this moment, that she had the opportunity to participate in the Z-man Scholarship," said Debra Duru, the mother of one of the recipients. "It's totally a blessing for our family."

The students will start at their new school in the fall.
