PORTLAND, Ore. -- A 44-year-old man died while being treated for the H1N1 flu virus last week at a Portland hospital.David Hill became the second person from Yamhill County to die from the virus.Hill's wife, Tammy Hill, said the virus moved quickly and aggressively. In a matter of days, Tammy Hill said her husband went from experiencing symptoms of the common cold in McMinnville to being diagnosed with the H1N1 flu at St. Vincent's hospital in Portland."One organ after another just failed and there was nothing more they could do," Tammy Hill said.Tammy Hill said her husband was a diabetic and suffered a heart attack last year. Health experts said people with compromised immune systems are more vulnerable to the H1N1 virus, but Tammy Hill does not believe the prior health conditions played a factor in her husband's death."You could be healthy and you could still get it and this could happen, as far as I'm concerned," Tammy Hill said. While the days since her husband's death have been difficult, Tammy said she prefers to remember the good times with David. The pair met as teenagers in high school."He was a funny guy," she said. "He could always make you laugh."A celebration of life service for David Hill is planned for Tuesday afternoon in McMinnville.
