PORTLAND, Ore. -- For hundreds of automotive students at Portland Community College their future careers are all about living green. The college's Sylvania campus hosted Alternative Fuel Vehicle Day on Friday focusing on the green cars of the future.Students got to see hybrids, electric and compressed natural gas cars. They also received education about installing electric and natural gas filling stations.
Students said events like this show them that piston engines are quickly going by the wayside."In 20 years if we could, you know, shy ourselves away from oil and get to where we are running on clean energy stuff from windmills to hydro, that would be an awesome future," auto mechanic student Jeffrey Thorne said. The Alternative Fuels Day was observed in nearly 90 other cities Friday across the United States.
