Phillies Aim To Go Three Up On Dodgers In Game 3 Of NLCS
(Sports Network) - Philadelphia tries to go three up on the Los Angeles Dodgers in the National League Championship Series this evening as the best- of-seven matchup shifts to Dodger Stadium for Game 3.Philadelphia will have manager Charlie Manuel on the bench for this one. The Phillies skipper learned just hours before his team's Game 2 win on Friday that his 87-year-old mother had passed away. However, he won't miss any time. The Phillies protected their home-field advantage with wins in the first two games of this series. On Friday, pitcher Brett Myers picked up the win, but was more impressive at the plate than he was on the mound, as he had three hits and three RBI, leading Philadelphia to an 8-5 win in Game 2. Myers (2-0) lasted just five innings and surrendered five runs and six hits. Brad Lidge recorded the final three outs for his fourth save of this postseason, adding to his NLCS record of seven. Of course, he is a perfect 45- for-45 in save opportunities this season. Shane Victorino had four RBI in the win for the Phillies, who have won all four of their games at home this postseason. Manuel isn't the only Phillie dealing with grief, as Victorino received news following Friday's win that his grandmother had died. National League home run champion Ryan Howard continued to struggle, as he was 0-for-4 with a pair of strikeouts. He is just 2-for-19 this postseason with no home runs and one RBI. Manny Ramirez hit his third home run this postseason and knocked in three runs for the Dodgers, who are still searching for their first NLCS win since 1988. Ramirez has now driven in a run in six straight and eight of his last nine LCS games. Chad Billingsley (1-1) was hammered in the loss, yielding eight runs and eight hits in just 2 1/3 frames. The Phillies will go with ageless lefty Jamie Moyer this evening. Moyer, who was 16-7 with a 3.71 ERA during the regular season, lost his NLDS start to the Milwaukee Brewers, as he allowed a pair of runs and four hits in just four innings. He also walked three batters in his team's 4-1 loss. Moyer was 10-3 away from home this season with a 2.92 ERA. However, he is 3-4 lifetime against the Dodgers with a 4.80 ERA in 10 starts. The 45-year-old hurler won his only other LCS start, as he beat the New York Yankees in the 2001 ALCS while with Seattle. Los Angeles will counter with righty Hiroki Kuroda, who was brilliant in beating the Chicago Cubs in the NLDS. Kuroda helped the Dodgers complete the sweep, as he scattered six hits over 6 1/3 scoreless innings to help LA advance. Kuroda, who was 9-10 with a 3.73 ERA on the year, faced the Phils twice this season, going 1-0 against them with a 1.38 ERA. The Phillies managed just a .095 batting average against the Japanese hurler. He was 6-2 in 14 home starts this season. Each team won four games from one another in the season series, with each capturing a four-game sweep on their home turf. Philadelphia, though, has lost its last five at Chavez Ravine. These teams are also no stranger to one another in the postseason, having met on three other occasions. However, they have not met up in the playoffs since the Phils defeated the Dodgers, 3-1, to advance to the 1983 World Series. Los Angeles, though, defeated the Phils the first two times these teams squared off in NLCS play. Unfortunately, the winner of the past three LCS matchups between these two has gone on to lose the World Series. Game 4 of this series will be played on Monday at Chavez Ravine.
