Report: Shaq To End Career In 735 Days

Orlando, FL -- (Sports Network) - Shaquille O'Neal told a Florida television news station Thursday that his basketball career will be over "in 735 days."In an interview with Orlando's News 13 at an event at the Pine Hills Boys and Girls Club, the Phoenix Suns center said he plans to finish out the remainder of his contract. His current deal runs through the end of the 2009-10 season, and O'Neal said he would retire after that, even going so far as putting a specific number of days to his departure from the NBA. O'Neal was acquired by the Suns in a trade this past season with Miami, and posted 13.6 points and 9.1 rebounds per game in 61 games between the clubs. It was the 16th NBA season for O'Neal, who is a 14-time All-Star, won three NBA Finals MVP awards (2000-2002) and four NBA titles, as well as one overall MVP in 1999-2000. He was additionally named Rookie of the Year award in 1992-93 after being selected first overall in the 1992 Draft out of LSU. O'Neal owns career averages of 25.2 points and 11.5 rebounds per game in 1042 career appearances for the Magic, Lakers, Heat and Suns.
