Blazers' Frye Could Miss Start Of Season

POSTED: 5:36 am PDT September 9, 2008

(Sports Network) - Portland Trail Blazers forward Channing Frye could miss the start of the regular season after undergoing surgery to have bone spurs removed from his left ankle.

Tests over the weekend revealed the problem and arthroscopic surgery was performed Monday. Frye is expected to be sidelined for at least two months and the Blazers open the 2008-09 campaign on October 28 against the Los Angeles Lakers.

"Channing underwent arthroscopic surgery today on his left ankle after recently experiencing discomfort," said Trail Blazers general manager Kevin Pritchard. "We expect him to make a full recovery in 8-10 weeks."

The 6-foot-11 Frye, acquired from the Knicks as part of the Zach Randolph deal in June 2007, averaged 6.8 points and 4.5 rebounds in 78 games last season.
