A 9-year-old Vancouver girl died Tuesday night after a sledding accident.Authorities said Madison Gecho and an 18-year-old man were riding on an inner tube that was being towed behind a pickup-truck driven by Peter Gecho, her dad, in the parking lot of Thomas Jefferson Middle School.The sledding device made a tight turn and Madison struck a brick bench, according to police.She was taken to Legacy Salmon Creek Hospital just after 9 p.m. by her father and later transported to Legacy Emanuel Hospital in Portland. She was pronounced dead a short time later, according to police.The teenager suffered minor injuries.Vancouver authorities said they believe alcohol was a factor in the accident.Police said the inflatable device involved in the incident was left at the scene and has since been removed. The inner tube is described as yellow with two seats and handles for passengers.The incident is being investigated by Vancouver authorities.Anyone with information is urged to call 360-397-2032 or 360-397-2040.The Clark County Sheriff's Office would like to remind citizens that only authorized vehicles are allowed on roadways and that go-carts, four-wheelers, and snowmobiles are illegal on roadways.Vehicles are also prohibited from towing sleds, inner tubes, or any other device and drivers may be cited for reckless driving, whether on a roadway or on private property.
