UPDATED: 2:30 pm PST January 25, 2007

Tualatin police are warning residents about a scam involving a man claiming to be a city employee.

According to police, a man is calling Tualatin homes and telling residents he is a city water supervisor.

In a phone message to one Tualatin resident, police said the caller identified himself as “Bill Goodpastor” and said he was with the City of Tualatin. The caller said he “needed to enter the residence to test their water due to recent water contamination in the area” and then left a call-back number, according to police.

When police called the number, they reached the following voice message: “You have reached the office of Bill Goodpastor, the operation supervisor with the City of Tualatin sewer, storm, street and water divisions.”

Tualatin officials said they have never employed anyone named Bill Goodpastor.

According to City of Tualatin water Supervisor Mick Wilson, there is no contamination in any City of Tualatin water. Wilson said water supervisors do not enter homes to conduct water tests.

Anyone with information or who has received a similar phone call is asked to call Tualatin police at 503-691-4800.
