A trip to the Oregon Museum of Science and Industry took a frustrating turn for one family after thieves took keys and bankcards from their vehicle.Corina Sturgis told FOX 12 that thieves stole her purse from her vehicle last week while she was at OMSI with her sister and their kids. “She pulled out the stroller, at the same time I just put my purse in there because we were going to the kids area and I didn’t want to lug that along with my niece and nephew,” said Corina Sturgis.Sturgis’ husband, Josh, said he received a call from the credit card company within forty minutes.
“By the time I had stopped that card, they’d moved on to my next card,” said Josh Sturgis. The victims said one of the thieves was caught on camera using their bankcards less than an hour after the break-in.Sturgis said the clerk at a 7-Eleven convenience store told him they’d seen the same man last month, trying to buy phone cards and pre-paid cell phones. Both times the clerks rejected the credit cards the man showed them, but many retailers do not check identification.“What’s most disturbing to me, the other clerks are accepting cards when it’s got a female’s name on it and not asking for ID on credit cards,” said the Sturgis family. The family said they changed their locks and credit cards, but Corina Sturgis remained shaken by the experience.“They took everything -- everything,” said Corina Sturgis.OMSI has a sign posted, warning visitors about theft. Josh Sturgis said the staff told him that it does not happen often, but theft does occur.
