Starbucks Tests Drink Changes In Portland

FOX 12 has learned that Portland is a test market for a possible new system at Starbucks that could help customers cut calories.

It used to be standard operating procedures for Starbuck baristas to use whole milk unless otherwise specified while making lattes and cappuccinos. But during February, Starbucks is trying something new.

Corporate officials said Portland has been selected as a test market for using 2 percent as the default milk. If customers prefer the whole milk, they have to request it when ordering.

Officials said the change is to test their observation that more customers choose lower-fat milk in their lattes.

“I think it’s great. It’s way healthier and I need it. I need to lose weight, so it will help,” said latte lover Mary McGregor.

If the research proves the customers prefer lower-fat milk, it could become permanent across the U.S.
