Abandoned Cats Left In Sealed Container At OHS

Oregon Humane Society is asking the public's help in locating the person who left five kittens and their mother in a small storage container wrapped in duct tape on their doorstep Wednesday night.

The five kittens, about 2 months old, and their young mother were left inside a sealed bin without air holes for 10 hours, said OHS officials.

OHS helps people find new homes for unwanted pets, and accepts thousands of cats each year from the public.

"If you have a cat and cannot care for it, please call OHS so we help find your cat a new home. The worst thing to do is abandon the cat in the middle of the night," said Susan Mentley, OHS Operations Director.

Animal abandonment is Class B Misdemeanor that carries with it the penalty of $2,000 in fines and up to six months in jail.

A person commits the crime of animal abandonment if he or she intentionally leaves a domestic animal at a location without providing for the animal's continued care.

Anyone with information is urged to call OHS at 503-285-7722, ext. 214.
