Suspect In Outlet Mall Shooting Was On Break, Documents Say

A 17-year-old suspect in a shooting at a Lincoln City outlet mall appeared in court Tuesday.Hector Canales-Robles is accused of shooting 18-year-old Ty Pedersen in the jaw during an armed robbery at the Springmaid-Wamsutta store Saturday.According to court documents, Canales-Robles was working at the Hollister store in the Tanger Outlet Mall on Saturday night. Store employees told detectives that Canales-Robles took a break and that he walked toward the Springmaid-Wamsutta store.Witnesses said they heard two gunshots moments later.Police said the gunman wore all black with a stocking cap and nylons over his face. A mall maintenance worker identified Canales as the man wearing clothing that matched officers' description.The worker also said he saw Canales-Robles leave through an employee hallway after the shots were fired.Life Flight took Pedersen to Legacy Emanuel Hospital in Portland. He was still hospitalized Tuesday night.Both teens attend Taft High School, where a counseling room was set up for students Tuesday.Canales-Robles is being held in jail on $500,000 bail. He faces charges of robbery, attempted murder and kidnapping.
