Tenants Claim Apartment Mold Is Making Them Sick

Two Milwaukie families said their landlord is ignoring a mold problem in their apartment complex that is making their children sick.

The families said they’ve reported the problem to their landlord at the Holly Acres Apartments several times, but nothing has been done.

James and Sabrina Thayer’s bathroom ceiling leaks water from the apartment upstairs, but it’s the mold that keeps coming back that has them concerned.

The Thayers said they’ve treated the mold in their bathroom and their son’s room with bleach multiple times, and it continues to come back.

“He keeps coughing and he can’t sleep at night because it keeps him awake,” said Sabrina Thayer.

“When this stuff really grows, I sneeze 50 times in the morning before I can stop,” said tenant Stephen Lampley.

Lampley said he’s replaced the drywall in his bathroom himself three times, but claimed that the blacks spots will soon be back.

Lampley and the Thayers said they’ve reported the mold problem more than a dozen times to the apartment manager.

Apartment manager Vicky Kinney said she never received written maintenance requests from the Thayers or the Lampleys.

FOX 12 tried contacting the property management company that operates the Holly Acres apartment complex but they never returned reporters' calls.
