Crews Respond To Eighth Car Fire In Three Days

Firefighters respond to an early-morning car fire in northeast Portland, the eighth in three days.The latest blaze was reported at 4 a.m. Thursday on Northeast 35th Avenue and Schuyler Street, just off Broadway in the Hollywood District.Fire crews said the vehicle was an older Honda Accord.There were no injuries reported in the Thursday morning blaze.This is the third morning that cars have been discovered on fire, making it eight car fires that have been set in a three-day span in east Portland.On Wednesday, three vehicles were found ablaze. The first fire was reported at 4:25 a.m. at Southeast 74th Avenue and Otty Road, where a Saturn Vue was found on fire.Minutes later, a second fire involving a Honda Element occurred along Tolman Road.A Ford Ranger pickup was then found ablaze along Southeast 96th Avenue at 5:04 a.m.Four other cars -- three Honda CRVs and another Ford Ranger pickup -- were also set ablaze Tuesday, according to authorities.Investigators said they are considering clues from past graffiti and vandalism cases in the area and a possible connection to an ecoterrorism case in Eugene.Authorities have not connected the seven car fires on Tuesday and Wednesday to the one in northeast Portland on Thursday.The Metro Arson Task Force is still investigating the fires.Investigators have not attributed the fires to any group or individual.Anyone with information on the fires is asked to call 503-823-3791.FOX 12 and KPTV.com will update as more information becomes available.Related content:
