Salem Police Search For Suspected Sex Offender

A man accused of sexually abusing his 7-year-old granddaughter is being sought by the Salem Police Department.

Jessie Ballew, 58, is accused of taking sexually explicit pictures of his granddaughter and is wanted on charges of sex abuse, using a child in display of sexually explicit conduct and encouraging child sex abuse.

In April, police said Ballew took his computer to a Salem computer repair store because he said he was unable to burn photographs to a CD. The repairman found 10 naked pictures of a girl who was between the ages of 3 and 5, according to police.

Officers seized the computer and later searched Ballew's motor home. They said they found more evidence, but Ballew wasn't there.

When Ballew had called the computer store, he learned police had seized his computer and then hung up the phone, according to police. He told his daughter that he was leaving the Salem area because someone was trying to kill him, according to police.

Ballew is described as white, 58 years old, 6 feet tall and 240 pounds with brown hair and brown eyes.

Anyone with information on his location is asked to call 503-588-6050, ext. 7150.
