UPDATED: 4:09 pm PDT June 18, 2007

Authorities have identified the man killed this morning by a Clackamas County sheriff's deputy.

Police said the deputy responded to a 911 call reporting what was described by the call as a “weirdo here” in the Greenhouse Square shopping center on Southeast 82nd Drive around 3:30 a.m.

When the female deputy, a 19-year veteran of the force and a member of the K-9 team, arrived at the scene, authorities said a man came out of the shadows with two knives. When the man advanced toward the deputy, she fired her weapon multiple times, police said.

The man, identified as 25-year-old Luke Seal, was transported to Oregon Health & Science University, where he later died. His last known address was in Portland.

The deputy was not injured in the incident.

In accordance to Clackamas County Sheriff's Office protocol, the deputy is now on paid administrative leave.

The shooting remains under investigation.
