Worker Killed In Downtown Construction Accident

A construction worker died Tuesday while he was working on the Portland Mall MAX light rail project.

Officials said Jeffrey Helgeson, 42, of Beaverton, was doing concrete demolition work when a piece of equipment came loose and hit him.

The incident occurred on Southwest 6th Avenue and Alder Street around 2:15 p.m.

Helgeson was working for Tigard-based Williams and Ryan Construction.
