A man accused of crashing into a vehicle in Portland was taken into custody Wednesday afternoon after several drivers reported poor driving on Highway 43, police said.Lake Oswego and West Linn police received several calls around 4 p.m. Wednesday from drivers who were calling about a silver Honda Accord weaving all over Highway 43, heading toward West Linn. The callers also reported seeing part of a car body panel dangling from the car.Police said callers gave them continuous updates of the car’s travels until it turned off the highway onto Marylhurst Drive.
When officers located the car driven by 21-year-old Bret Horner, they said they found a piece of a silver Volvo attached to the car.Officers called dispatchers and discovered a silver Volvo had been struck on Macadam, north of Southwest Nebraska Street.Horner was taken into custody on DUII charges and cited for hit-and-run.There were no injuries reported."This dangerous driver was taken off the road due to the diligence of several callers who witnessed Mr. Horner swerving all over the road and called police," said Sgt. Neil Hennelly of the West Linn Police Department. "These callers really saved the day.”
