OHSU Scientists Begin Trials On MS Drug

Portland is testing a drug that some experts said could be a breakthrough treatment for people with multiple sclerosis.Scientists at Oregon Health & Science University begun their first stage of clinical trials on a drug called RTL 1000 in late May.According to officials, the patient, identified as Anne Foster, of Wash., has not experienced an adverse reactions to the drug.In previous test on mice, the drug actually revered the damage that multiple sclerosis does to nerves.
RTL 1000 was developed by scientists at OHSU and the Portland Veterans Affairs Medical Center.More than 2.5 million people suffer from multiple sclerosis around the world.For more information on this study, please visit our newspaper partner’s Web site, The Portland Tribune.
