UPDATED: 7:41 am PDT August 20, 2007

Two bicyclists were taken to Oregon Health & Science University after they were struck by a car in southeast Portland on Friday.

Police said the driver of the car was 46-year-old Johnny Eschweiler. His car and the bicycles collided in the 1000 block of Southeast Clinton Street at about 12:41 p.m.

Based on witness information, police said Eschweiler and the bicyclists were involved in some sort of fight.

Police said that evidence suggests Eschweiler intentionally struck the two bicyclists.

After interviewing witnesses and the suspect, police arrested Eschweiler on charges of attempted assault in the first degree.

The two bicyclists, 25-year-old Ben Ramsdell and 41-year-old Timothy Mastne, were hospitalized with injuries that weren't life-threatening, according to police.
