FOX 12 is one of several Portland area stations that will air a documentary on methamphetamine addiction on Oct. 9 at 7:30 p.m.FOX 12’s David Wilson talked with Jim White, the man who brought the "Crystal Darkness" campaign to Oregon.“We believe it will touch the hearts of many people so much. It will stop meth in its tracks,” said White.White, a cerified public accountant, was on a business trip last year and witnessed how successful the "Crystal Darkness" media campaign was in fighting meth abuse in Nevada.Even though White had never been involved with television before, he researched ways to bring a local version of the documentary to Oregon.“The mountains to climb were climbed and I’m in a situation where I need to give back where I can help people,” said White. The documentary will share real life stories of local people and their families, people who have struggled with meth addiction. The show will also offer several avenues for recovery.White got four out of five local stations, including FOX 12, to air the documentary at the same time on the same night.White said the hope is that the new documentary will also be shown at schools as part of an overall message to kids that methamphetamine is bad news.“We’ll never be able to measure this, of course, but our hope is that many, many students will never touch meth,” said White.Watch “Crystal Darkness” on FOX 12 Tuesday at 7:30 p.m.Oregon Partnership is collecting donations on behalf of Crystal Darkness to assist in the fight against meth.
