PORTLAND, Ore. -- A northeast Portland family is claiming a woman posing as a landlord took them for thousands of dollars.Portland police arrested Lynn Sisto on Tuesday after several people said she stole more than $3,500 from them.Michelle Clark, her sister-in-law Gloria Leffall and a cousin claimed Sisto told them she was a real estate investor who had just purchased several homes in northeast Portland and was willing to rent them.“There was no application fee. Eight hundred dollars a month plus $500 security deposit,” said Clark.Leffall, with her two children, paid $800 to rent a home on Northeast Sacramento while Clark paid $1,000 for a place on Northeast Eugene.“When I called her back and asked why there were for-sale signs in the yard, she said, ‘I just closed on the house,’” said Clark. The alleged victims said Sisto had an accomplice who was able to open the houses’ lock boxes and show the places as if they were ready to rent when they were actually still for sale.On Tuesday, Leffall and Clark arranged to meet Sisto at a Portland Taco Bell on Northeast 122nd Avenue, telling her they were ready to pay more money. Instead, the two women blocked her car in the parking lot and called police.“It’s wrong. It’s wrong to be betrayed like that. It’s not a good feeling,” said alleged victim Michelle Clark.Sisto has been charged with one count of theft, and more could be pending.Anyone who thinks they may have been scammed by Sisto is urged to contact Portland police.
