HILLSBORO, Ore. -- A former teacher accused of stealing a student's coat and trying to sell it on eBay took the stand in court Friday.Elizabeth Logan, a former Jackson Elementary School teacher, was charged with first-degree theft and computer crime after allegations surfaced that she stole a student's coat and placed it on eBay.Logan said she took a similar coat home, but it was months before the student ever reported it missing. She doesn't think it's the same coat.Logan also said it was common for people to take home unclaimed coats; otherwise, the school janitor would throw them away."If you wanted a coat, or if your child wanted a coat, go back to the boiler room and go through the boxes," Logan said. "She was very open about people taking whatever they wanted."Logan had been put on paid administrative leave after a student's mother found the coat on eBay. She then resigned May 10, according to the Hillsboro School Board.Logan will return to the stand Tuesday, when the prosecution will cross-examine her.
