UPDATED: 3:41 pm PST November 12, 2007

Strong winds downed trees and power lines across northern Oregon and southwest Washington on Monday.

Most areas in the Portland metro area had peak wind gusts of 35-50 mph. Some areas on the coast had gusts higher than 70 mph.

About 35,000 Portland General Electric customers, mostly in Washington, Clackamas and western Multnomah counties, lost power Monday.

On the coast, the PacificCorp power line between Astoria and Tillamook went down at 4:42 a.m., but service to most customers was restored by 5 a.m., spokeswoman Jan Mitchell said.

Most remaining outages were in Cannon Beach and the Warrenton-Hammond area south of Astoria.

In western Washington, about 85,000 customers lost power.

A total of 9,870 customers lost power in Cowlitz County. Parts of Castle Rock, Toutle, Ryderwood, Kalama and Kelso were all offline at some point Monday.

As of 3 p.m., there were still tens of thousands of people without power in the Metro area and southwest Washington.

There were 300 PGE workers working to restore power Monday with 67 repair crews in the field.

To report a power outage, call PGE at 503-464-7777 in Portland, or 800-544-1795 outside the Portland area.

For Clark Public Utilities, call 360-992-8000.

In Cowlitz County, call 360-423-2210.

And for Pacific Power, call 1-877-548-3768.
