Multnomah County deputies have arrested a man they said is responsible for a large methamphetamine operation.

The Multnomah county Special Investigative Unit served a search warrant at a home on Southeast 49th Avenue at about 12:30 p.m. Thursday.

Deputies said the warrant was obtained as part of an ongoing investigation into distribution and possession of methamphetamine.

Deputies said they found 35 pounds of elemental iodine, six pounds of red phosphorus and a large quantity of other meth-manufacturing chemicals. They also found several guns with silencers, officers said.

Ted Wayne Berardinelli was taken into custody and charged with manufacturing, distributing and possessing a controlled substance within 1,000 feet of a school, three counts of felon in possession of a firearm and two counts of unlawful possession of silencers.

Berardinelli is currently lodged in the Multnomah County Detention Center.

Portland police said of the three meth labs they’ve busted in 2007, this was the largest.
