Police: Paramedic Sexually Assaulted Patient

POSTED: 3:27 pm PST December 10, 2007
UPDATED: 12:02 pm PST December 11, 2007

Portland police arrested a paramedic on charges he sexually assaulted a woman while she was being taken to a hospital.

Police began their investigation when they were called to Emanuel Hospital on Saturday.

The victim told officers she had been sexually assaulted by 61-year-old Lannie Haszard, who had responded to assist her with a medical problem.

After detectives investigated, they arrested Haszard on two counts of sexual assault in the first degree.

American Medical Response said Haszard had been a paramedic with the agency for several years. He was put on paid administrative leave, but as of Monday night, he was no longer working for the company.

Friends said Haszard and his wife are trying to sell their Vancouver home and retire to Nebraska with their family.

Detectives are still investigating the incident.

They're seeking information from other women who may have received emergency medical care from Haszard while he was working as an AMR paramedic.

Anyone with information is asked to call 503-823-9320 or 503-823-0466.
