Deputies Ask Onlookers To Avoid Damage

Clark County deputies are asking residents in southwest Washington to avoid the damaged areas hit by Thursday's tornado.

Deputies said the areas were still hazardous and considered off-limits in order to allow for utility crews, firefighters and law enforcement to work safely.

The tornado touched down in a residential area of Vancouver and brought down power lines and trees.

There were no reports of serious injuries.

Utility officials said 1,200 customers initially lost power, but as of 4:15 p.m., only 500 people were without service.

The outages were caused primarily by trees that fell through the power lines. Crews worked to replace broken poles and replace damaged power lines Thursday afternoon.

The most serious damage is near Fruit Valley Road south of Northeast 78th Street.
