UPDATED: 12:39 pm PST January 26, 2008

A former teacher was arrested Friday after allegations surfaced that he had a sexual relationship with a student in 2000.

Deputies said a former student at the Willamette Valley Christian School in Brooks reported having a sexual relationship with Andrew Bolsinger in the spring of 2000.

The victim was 16 years old at the time.

Bolsinger, 41, was taken into custody on charges of rape, sodomy, sexual abuse and custodial interference.

Bolsinger left the school in 2000. After working as a journalist in Virginia, he was hired as editor of the Ashland Daily Tidings in July 2003.

He has been suspended as editor until the case is resolved, said Robert Hunter, editor of the Mail Tribune in Medford. Both papers are owned by Ottaway Newspapers Inc.
