Clackamas County deputies arrested a sixth-grade basketball coach after tensions boiled over during a game Saturday.

Deputies said that they responded to the game between girls from Estacada and Molalla after someone called to report a disturbance. When they arrived, witnesses detailed the disturbance and what lead up to it.

Witnesses said that the Molalla coach, Jeffery Scott Larsen, 36, received two technical fouls -- one for arguing with the teenage referee and another when he got angry and slammed a clipboard down, cutting a girl's hand.

After the second foul, Larsen was ejected from the game. Instead of leaving, however, witnesses said he stood in the corner of the hall where the game was being held and continued to berate the ref and coach his team.

They said that his actions riled the fans, and after the game, many of the fans swarmed the court and began arguing.

During the arguments, witnesses said that Larsen grabbed the ref, Houston Webb, 17, and cocked his fist as if he was going to strike the teenager and called him vulgar names.

The Estacada coach and principal of Estacada Junior High School, Kevin Olds, 47, said he went to defend the ref and was violently pushed by Molalla assistant coach James Ulin, 34.

"There were an estimated 75 parents and children in attendance who witnessed this event. Many of the girls were frightened, crying and fleeing the building with their parents," said Olds.

The Molalla coaches left before deputies arrived, but they said when they went to his house he cooperated with them.

Larsen said that the environment at the Estacada High School was fully charged when the incident happened.

Deputies said Larsen was taken into custody and charged with criminal trespassing and will appear in court on March 17.
